Botox® and botulinum toxin

Frown lines, forehead, crow’s feet: Botox® relaxes expression lines with a measured touch, for a refreshed face that stays fully expressive.

Dr Franck Pourrez, aesthetic doctor in Nice, giving an injection with a syringe near the eye/eyebrow of a reclining patient wearing a headband.

Why choose botulinum toxin in aesthetic medicine?

Over time, the facial muscles we use for our expressions (smiling, frowning, surprise…) create so-called “expression lines”.

GALDERMA® botulinum toxin, widely known by the brand name Botox®, works by temporarily relaxing these muscles to soften the creases in the skin. The result: a smoother, relaxed, rested face — without losing your expressiveness.

This non-surgical treatment is recognised for its safety, effectiveness and subtle results when performed by an experienced practitioner.

Which areas can be treated with botulinum toxin?

These are the areas most commonly targeted with botulinum toxin:

  • Forehead lines: horizontal lines linked to expressions of surprise or concentration
  • Frown lines (glabella): between the eyebrows, often giving a stern or tired look
  • Crow’s feet: around the eyes, accentuated by smiling
  • Bunny lines: small lines on the nose visible when you scrunch it
  • Eyebrows: a subtle lift to open up the eyes
  • Underarms or hands: for excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis)

Each treatment plan is tailored to your features, your expression habits and your expectations.

What happens during a session?

1An initial medical consultation

Before any treatment, a consultation assesses your needs, analyses your expressions and checks for any contraindications
It is also an opportunity to discuss your goals and draw up a personalised plan. A quote is provided at the end of this step, together with an informed consent form.

2A quick, comfortable and controlled session

On the day of the injection, the skin is carefully cleansed. The procedure is performed with a very fine micro-needle, without anaesthesia in most cases.
Each injection point precisely targets the muscles to be relaxed, for a harmonious, natural result.

Duration: about 15 to 20 minutes.
The session is an outpatient procedure, with no downtime.

3After the session: what to do

You can resume your activities straight away, with no pain or visible marks.

We simply advise you:

  • to avoid massaging or pressing on the injected area for a few hours,
  • not to lie down or do intense exercise for 4 to 6 hours.

When will I see the results?

The first effects start to appear from the 3rd or 4th day.
The final result is visible after 10 to 15 days: your face looks rested and your features smoother, but still natural. Your expressions stay lively, without a frozen look.

Duration of effect: on average 4 to 6 months, depending on the areas treated and your muscle activity.
Maintenance sessions can be offered 2 to 3 times a year to maintain the effects.

Contraindications

The treatment is not suitable if you are:

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Suffering from a neuromuscular disease (e.g. myasthenia gravis)
  • Taking certain antibiotics (aminoglycosides)
  • Allergic to any of the ingredients (botulinum toxin or albumin)
  • Suffering from a skin infection in the area to be treated

The doctor always checks these points during the first consultation.
